April 2025 – Belo Horizonte, Brazil – Phibion’s advanced tailings dewatering management technology is gaining significant attention across the Brazilian mining industry, following the release of a video by global iron ore leader Vale, showcasing real-time footage of Accelerated Mechanical Consolidation (AMC) in action using Phibion’s MudMaster technology.

Tailings Dewatering

The footage, captured at one of Vale’s active tailings management sites, highlights the efficiency, scale, and environmental impact of AMC—a proven approach that safely consolidates tailings, improves density and shear strength, and accelerates water recovery without the need for filtration or chemical treatment.

“The Vale video underscores the relevance of AMC for large-scale iron ore operations,” said a Phibion spokesperson. “It’s not only a validation of our technology, but also a strong example of how forward-thinking operators are integrating sustainable tailings management into their production and closure strategies.”

Tailings Innovation in Action

The MudMaster—Phibion’s patented twin-screw amphibious machine—operates directly on soft tailings, mechanically removing interstitial water and increasing material strength. When combined with a tailored AMC plan, this process significantly reduces dam volume, improves access, and defers the need for costly new tailings facilities.

Already active across Brazil, Peru, Chile, Jamaica, South Africa, the Philippines, Bolivia, Bulgaria and Australia, Phibion is rapidly expanding its presence in Latin America with a focus on high-volume metal producers seeking safer, faster, and more sustainable tailings solutions.

Supporting ESG and Long-Term Closure

For iron ore producers such as Vale, AMC contributes directly to key ESG and regulatory outcomes by:

  • Recovering process water for reuse

  • Reducing the dam footprint and associated environmental liabilities

  • Enabling progressive rehabilitation and closure planning

  • Minimising tailings-related risks in populated or sensitive areas

About Phibion - Phibion is a global leader in mine tailings dewatering and consolidation, helping the world’s top mining companies make their tailings dams smaller, safer, and more sustainable through patented technologies and deep geotechnical expertise.
