MINE CLOSURE

Coal

 

Coal fines are high in clay and resist efforts to dewater. When applied to closing a coal fines dam AMC operations can deliver:

  • A trafficable surface within 16 weeks plus a maturation period (that varys from site to site and usually several months). Once complete the capping process can commence; and 

  • A final coal fines density approaching the liquid limit and strengths >10 kPa.

Mineral Sands

 

Mineral sand tailings are high in clay and resist efforts to dewater. The low angle of repose is also a contributing and complicating factor.  When applied to closing fine mineral sand tailings dam AMC operations can deliver:

  • A trafficable surface within 16 weeks plus a maturation period (that varys from site to site and usually several months). Once complete the capping process can commence; and

  • A final fine mineral sand tailings strength at depth >10 kPa after the maturation period.
